a Stampavie challenge and a sketch

Hi all!  It’s time once again for…

stampavie-challenge-logo-450x200.jpg

Today Jay Jay issued a color challenge.  We were to use the colors yellow, orange and red.

With the approaching fall season, I immediately thought of the beautiful fall leaves that we will soon see on the trees here in PA.  So I found this cute Tina Wenke image called Opossum Pals and decided to turn it into an autumn tree.

tw-fall-leaves-ty-diane-zechman.jpg

I cut and embossed the accent leaves with some Spellbinders dies and then sponged them with ink while they were still in the die.  Your fingers tend to get a bit messy this way but it is so worth it, I think!  I was wishing later that I had spritzed some color on as well…maybe next time!

As I was creating this card, I thought that it might make a nice sketch to share.  So I made one up quick….I’d love to have you play along!  If you use my sketch, post a link back here and I’ll pick a winner on Sunday to send a little somethin’!  :0)

Here you go…don’t feel limited by the leaves!  They are only meant to be an accent….you can use flowers, buttons, etc. …whatever you imagine!

Don’t forget to check out the Stampavie challenge here and enter to win a great prize!

I’m off to enjoy the day…today is our anniversary!  But we will be spending it with a bunch of teenagers having a pool party here.  LOL.  Good times!

And here is the card I came up with:

Sorry for the poor photo!  And I am not sure why I colored him blue…I guess I just wanted him to be different.  LOL.

You can check out the other DT cards with this sketch on the ATS blog and you can play along too.  Don’t forget that the guest DT are quite often chosen from the entries!  :0)

leere-coffee-girls-diane-zechman.jpg

These girls were just screaming “pink and black” to me so I pulled out some fun new papers I haven’t used yet.  And I think these images are always fun to paper piece!

Here’s the card recipe:

Mushroom Friends sneak peek!

mushroom-box-diane-zechman.jpgAre you ready for Spring?  And bunnies and mushrooms?  :0)

Here’s a sneak peek of my new set called Mushroom Friends!  It contains 3 different bunny & mushroom images, a single mushroom and a few fun sentiments.  And it will be available Monday night at ATS.  Scroll to the bottom of this post to find out how you can win this set!

I used my SU! Cutie Pie paper (and the cardboard insert!) to make this box.  This was a technique challenge over on Splitcoast not long ago.  You can check out the TLC203 Origami Box directions to find out how to make it.

I used my Martha Stewart Cornice Edge punch on the strips across the top of the box.  I was actually cutting a long strip to fit around the sides but it wasn’t working out, so I cut it down and added two strips to the top instead.  And the main image was cut out with Labels 1 Nestabilities.

This box was made for a gift swap last weekend when I was stamping with friends.  It was filled with some stamping goodies but imagine the possibilities….this box would make a great gift package for just about any occasion!

Here is a close up of the main image.  And you can see that the Primas were layered with a jewelry spacer and a brad.

mushroom-box-closeup-diane-zechman.jpg

This is the inside of the box.  Normally you would only see the one side of the patterned paper but I wanted some of the other side to show also.  So I folded the sides up on the inside.

mushroom-box-inside-diane-zechman.jpg

And finally, here’s a close up of the inside.  The large mushroom is a single image.  The smaller mushroom and flower were cut out and layered from the image used above.  You can also see the cute mushroom charm I found in the beading section at Michael’s.  I punched a hole through the lid so it hangs down on the outside when the box is closed.

mushroom-box-inside-closeup-diane-zechman.jpg

I hope you like it!  Now go and check out the ATS blog and gallery for a few more samples of Mushroom Friends.  You can also blog hop the ATS DT from the list on my sidebar.

stamps- Mushroom Friends by Cookie Crumbs; paper- Black, White, SU! Cutie Pie dp; ink- Memento Black; accessories- Martha Stewart Cornice Edge punch, Copic markers, chipboard, ribbon, Sticky Strip, Labels 1 Nestabilities, gel pen, twine, mushroom charm.

yes, I know it’s February, LOL……and the blog candy winner

candle-christmas-diane-zechman.jpgNo, I haven’t lost track of which month we are in!  Ha ha.  But I did it!  Barely, but it got done!

I *really* wanted to get a good head start on my Christmas cards for 2009 by making a few each month.  Now, mind you, I had the same good intentions last year…but never followed through.   sigh.gif  So I really want to try hard this year!  I also created a link in my categories so I can keep them together and hopefully it will help serve as a reminder each month!  Even though I am posting this in February, they were made on the last day of January, so that’s good enough for me to count them as my “January cards”.  LOL.

Since I never got a chance to use this stamp, and likewise never got around to putting it away, I decided to ink it up for my first set of cards.  I loved this image when I saw it at an LSS.  There’s no name on the stamp, but the store owner told me that it’s from Blue Ridge Impressions.  The sentiment is from the Christmas Sentiments set by AmyR Designs.

When I had the card all put together, it just still seemed to need something on the left.  With the sentiment and ribbon already there, I didn’t want to add another embellishment.  So I decided to paper pierce the corners and it seemed to be just what the card needed.  I have been “into” paper piercing a lot more lately.  I kind-of go in spurts.  There’s another card that I will share soon that I paper pierced on.  And I hope to do more.

So who wants to join me and get those cards done early?   😉

stamps- Blue Ridge Impressions, words- AmyR Designs; paper- White, Moss, Artichoke, dp- Provo Craft; ink- Memento Black, Artichoke; accessories- Copic markers, Labels 1 Nestabilities, ribbon, eyelets, SU! Designer Label punch, circle punch, SU! mat pack for paper piercing.

And now for the BLOG CANDY WINNER!

And the winner is Tracey with this comment:  “That oven is fantastic! WHat a cool idea!! My fave cookie is chocolate chip!!”

(I think Chocolate Chip was an overwhelming favorite in the responses!  But there was quite a variety mentioned.  I can see that I’m not the only one who LOVES cookies!)  :0)

Tracey, let me know your address and I’ll see that your cookie sets get out to you!

I hope to see you in the chat at All That Scraps tonight…8 pm EST!  The release of the new sets will be at 10 pm.

two new sets and blog candy!

cookie-oven-and-card-1-diane-zechman.jpgCookies are in the oven!  Mmmmm………..

cookie-oven-and-card-1-diane-zechman.jpg

Today the ATS design team is previewing my 2 new sets….”Cookie Jar” and “Cookie Jar-gon”!  I just *had* to do a cookie set, dontcha think?  :0)

These sets, along with 2 others, will be available Monday night at 10 pm on the All That Scraps website.  And as usual, there will be a chat starting at 8 pm in the message board

My first set, Cookie Jar, has seven different cookies, 2 girls and several other cookie related images.  The second set, Cookie Jar-gon, has lots of cookie sentiments.  The images come in a tin and the words will be in a baggie.  BUT…if you get both sets, once they are trimmed they will both *just fit* perfectly in the tin!  It is packed full!  :0)  *scroll to the end of this post for info on the blog candy*

Here are some separate pics of the card and box…you can click on the thumbnails to make them bigger.

cookie-oven-and-card-2-diane-zechman.jpg   cookie-oven-and-card-3-diane-zechman.jpg

For my project today, I have to say that I was inspired by Lauren Meader’s oven here.  I didn’t make mine the same way though.  I started out with one of the cupcake boxes from All That Scraps.  And when it was completed, I filled it with some Peanut Blossoms….one of my favorite kinds!

This box is for the mini cupcakes and the window is on the top and front of the box.  So I just needed to make a stove top to cover the top part of the window.  I scored and folded a tiny edge onto the front of the stovetop and then scored and folded the back section up.  See the close-up pic below for more details.

The box sides were folded together opposite from the way they normally go.  I folded the solid flap to the outside and attached it with Scor-tape so that the inter-locking flaps would not show.

I framed the front window by die-cutting a piece of cardstock with the Mega Curved Rectangle Nestabilities.  Then I cut a window in it by trimming out the center with my Fiskars paper trimmer.  This could also be done with just a ruler and a craft knife.

Here are some close-ups of the oven.

cookie-oven-and-card-4-diane-zechman.jpg

All of the paper used (except the white and the dp on the oven mitts) is from the DCWV Summer Glitter stack, so this oven really sparkles!

The “knobs” on the back were made with some old mesh heart eyelets that I found in my stash.  It’s amazing what you can find when you start searching, isn’t it?  LOL.

The burners were made by cutting circles with the circle Nestabilities.  Then I attached some circle clips onto each one with a brad.  This was the hardest part of the whole box….trying to figure out how to attach the “coils”!

The cookie tray and spatula are images from the Cookie Jar stamp set.  They were colored with Copic markers.  And the words are from the Cookie Jar-gon set.  I lightly stamped the heart cookie overtop of the words in pink.

The oven mitt that is in some other pics is also from the set.  It was stamped onto patterned paper and attached to the front of the stove.

cookie-oven-and-card-5-diane-zechman.jpgIn this pic you can see that the box lid opens from the back of the oven.  I wanted to cover and support the area where the back of the stovetop meets the box flap, so I attached an additional piece of pink paper.  Then I decorated the back a bit with the heart cookie and another sentiment from Cookie Jar-gon.

I hope you liked this project!  I thought it would be a fun way to give a gift of cookies.  I didn’t talk about the card, but I think it’s pretty self-explanatory.

Here’s the recipe for the card & box.  Scroll down for more info on the blog candy!  And be sure to check out all of the great samples by the ATS design team!  You can see them on the ATS blog and also in the gallery.

stamps- Cookie Jar and Cookie Jar-gon by Cookie Crumbs; paper- white, dp- DCWV Summer Glitter stack and Blossoms & Butterflies pack; ink- Chocolate Chip, Pixie, Memento Black; accessories- mini cupcake box from ATS, Scor-Pal, Scor-tape, Nestabilities- Circle, Double Ended Tags and Mega Curved Rectangles, mesh heart eyelets, snaps, Copic markers, circle clips, brads, Word Window punch, Large and Small Oval punches.

Now for the blog candy….

Would you like to win these sets?  Just leave a comment on this post telling me what your favorite cookie is!  On Monday afternoon I will pick a winner to receive both sets!  (one post per person, please)

Have a great weekend!  :0)

Wedding, Kisses and Hugs, and blog candy winner!

wedding1-diane-zechman.jpg*Scroll down to the bottom of this post for the blog candy winner!*

Sorry for the poor photos here!  I had to take these at night.

Tonight at 10 pm, C.C. Designs will be releasing the January sets!  (Including my Snow Friends set in the post below)  :0)  This first card was made with one of Amy Rysavy’s sets that will be released called “Wedding”.

The dress was stamped a few times and then cut into sections and layers.  Each piece was individually embossed and pieced together.  The roses were stamped, cut out and layered over the dress.  (inspired by Lesa)  And the bottom was punched with the Martha Stewart Doily Lace punch to complement the scalloped ruffles of the dress.  This card is made like Mish’s Tent Topper cards.  I didn’t really go by her measurements though….I just punched the bottom and then cut the length to 7 inches and folded it in half.  The width is 4 1/4.   After the dress was added, I decided to attach the words on a little flag and add some accents with Liquid Pearls.

stamps- Wedding by AmyR Designs; paper- white, dp- Basic Grey Sultry; ink- Memento Black; accessories- Cuttlebug Swiss Dots and Textile, Oval Nestabilities, Copic markers, Martha Stewart Doily Lace punch, ribbon, Liquid Pearls.

kisses-and-hugs1-diane-zechman.jpgThis next card uses the super-cute images from one of the C.C. Designs sets to be released called “Kisses and Hugs”.  I love Bear in his boxers!  And the bunny and piggy are so sweet!

Here I used the Liquid Pearls again to accent the photo corner and then I also used it to “paint” their wings.  When I was coloring these images, it made me a bit hungry.  They reminded me of vanilla, chocolate & strawberry.  LOL!

stamps- Kisses and Hugs by C.C. Designs; paper- Choc. Chip, Pretty in Pink, White, dp- unknown; ink- Memento Black; accessories- Photo Corner punch, Copic markers, Circle Nestabilities, gel pen, Liquid Pearls.

Don’t forget to stop by the ATS forum tonight to chat before the release!
