baby frame

This past weekend I attended a relative’s baby shower.  Along with the purchased gifts, I also made a framed 12 x 12 page that coordinated with her baby bedding.

When I found out that she was using the Trend Lab Baby Barnyard bedding, I searched online and found these pics for inspiration…Then I found a pic with fabric squares that are used in the bedding…score!  I used it to make my own patterned paper.  🙂

The papers were carefully laid out and diecut with my Big Shot Pro and the Bigz Pro Puzzle Page die.  Then I used various Paper Smooches stamp sets for all of the animals…I just think they are so cute and match pretty well to the bedding.  The barn is from an old SU! set.  I added some Judikins “straw” to the barn and popped up the cow’s nose.  The words were inspired by a scrap page title I saw…I thought they would go perfectly with the puzzle die.

I also popped up the puppy’s feet and added the animal sound words to coordinate with the sheet in the bedding.

This was a lot of fun to create and I hope it matches the room well since I haven’t actually seen the bedding in person.

Thanks for stopping in and I hope this inspires you to create some wall art of your own!

a critter challenge

Hello!  I have a few fun shaped cards today AND a short video.  :^)  My friends, Anna (SweetMissDaisy) and Jeanne (Jeanne S), and I are having a critter challenge today…making animal shaped cards.  I love, love, love shaped cards and I can’t wait to see what they created…be sure to check out their blogs too!

Jeanne has been making some awesome owls (it’s all her fault that I bought the die! lol)  and I had a lot of fun creating one of my own.  (It won’t be my last!!)  I made some puppy cards too…

Jeanne has pics on her blog to show how to make these dies into cards.  Just keep the fold of your card base slightly below the ears when cutting.  Easy!  For my owl, I added a heart shaped belly and some eyelids (the circle for the eye cut in half).  I think he looks a bit sleepy…or annoyed.  lol.

Then I made 2 puppy dogs.  The first one (on the right) was made just like the owl…with the fold kept just below the top of the ears.

Then I had a different idea and made the second one (on the left, above) with a bobble head!  I made the fold of my card about the height of his nose and trimmed the sides.  Then I diecut a separate head and attached it with a spring!

This was too fun and I think it’s way cuter in person, so here’s a quick video to see the bobble head.  Sorry my table was so slippy…it was hard to hold him and the camera at the same time.

Now don’t go away…I’ve got some chickens too!  I am a long time fan of Anna’s artwork and a few years ago another friend, Michele (mitchygitchygoomy), created a chicken shaped card which was inspired by Anna.  You can read all about it here.  Ever since then I have been wanting to try these so I knew my critter challenge wouldn’t be complete without some of mitchy’s chickens!

Did you notice the “straw” on the bottom?  :^)  These could be addicting.  Just sayin’.  edit: you can find a pattern for the chickens here.

Thanks for reading this far!  Have a great Sunday!

basket boxes

Happy Friday!  Are you ready for the weekend?  I have a busy one ahead but today I’ll share a few basket boxes I made with my new toy…the Big Shot Pro!  I have been wanting one for a year and a half…ever since my friend, Michelle, convinced me that I needed one.  LOL.  But I waited until I found a really good price…and then DH encouraged me to get it.  He’s the best!

Anyway…I got *one* die…the basket box.  And here’s what I made…

The bright green box is how it is originally supposed to look…love it!  But then I wanted a box to hold my little MFT strawberries…so I left the lid off the second one and only used one handle.

The green one was made with Momenta paper and stickers.

And the strawberry box was made with K&Company papers and various dies and punches.

These boxes just might show up at a party this weekend.  🙂

My friend told me the BS Pro was big, but it’s hard to tell the size without seeing it in person.  Here’s a quick pic or two for comparison…

It’s HUGE….heavy too!  lol.

I’m off to clean…bleh…have a great weekend!

’tis the season

I finally got a chance to get my July cards done for the SCS Dirty Dozen Christmas card challenges!  I can’t believe that I’ve actually stuck with this for 7 months now.  LOL.  This month Stacy challenged us to use pennants.  My card also fits Bar’s DTGD challenge for today…be sure to check it out!

It’s a pretty clean & simple card.  If you want to play along in the monthly Christmas card challenge, use the keyword SCSCCJUL12 when you upload to the SCS gallery.  And check out the Dare To Get Dirty challenges for today too…be sure to copy & paste the keywords for each of those too.

Sing to the Lord

This week the Scor-Pal team hopped with the gals from Really Reasonable Ribbon…what fun!  Today I will be sharing my projects that were featured on the Scor-pal blog.  Of course, if you missed this project or any of the other great projects from the Scor-pal team you’ll want to hop on over there and see what’s been going on. Be sure to leave comments on each post from this week for a chance to win some great prizes. Entry deadline in 8am Monday, July 16, so there’s still time.

I made two projects using the Scor-Pal and the fabulous ribbon.  First, a card…

I wanted the image and the ribbon to stand out so I did some simple scoring to accent them.  The top was scored with lines to create a double border, and then diagonal lines were scored on each corner.  The bottom has both vertical and horizontal scored lines.

The bird was paper pieced and his wing was popped with a dimensional.  I love the sheer box pleats ribbon and I think it sort of mimics the flower stem.  The ribbon was attached with a thin strip of Scor-Tape.

Next, I was just playing around with my Scor-Pal and came up with a flat envelope.  The finished size is 5 1/2″ x 7″.  It could be used to tuck a card, note, or gift inside (maybe a Hershey bar or two would be nice?)

I started with a piece of 9 x 12 paper.  (I saved the 3 x 12 piece to flip over and layer onto the top of the front).  Score the 12″ side @ 3 and 8 1/2.  Score the 9″ side @ 1/2 and 7 1/2.  Cut away the shaded areas as shown below.  (Click on the image for a larger view).

Fold the sides in and attach back with Scor-Tape.  Fold the bottom up and attach with Scor-Tape.  Die cut or punch the edge of the top flap if desired.  Fold top flap down and secure with sticky-back velcro.  Decorate.

The back will look like this:

The big lace circle on the front was wrapped around to the backside.  I used a Magnolia image from the Magnolia-licious store…she’s so cute with her butterfly!

I also used some more awesome ribbon from the Really Reasonable Ribbon store.  The layered paper on the top was hand cut in a wavy pattern and a thin strip (half the width of the 1/8″ Scor-Tape) of tape holds the Lime Green Leaves ribbon in place.  Love those leaves!  I also punched a circle, applied 1/2″ Scor-Tape to cover it, and attached some Yellow Plaid Ruffle ribbon to create a flower.

Check out all the projects from this week on the Scor-Pal and Really Reasonable ribbon blogs!

using ribbon scraps

Hello!  I have two clean & simple cards today with different ways to use up those scraps of ribbon…you know you have ’em!  lol.  Both of these cards were inspired from ones I saw in the Splitcoast gallery a few years ago.  Of course I changed things up quite a bit.

4 of our stamping gals had a birthday this month and this first card is what I made for them.  I think my favorite part is the jeweled brads in the butterfly.

This card was inspired by one done by Claire Brennan.  The butterfly is very simple…just wedge your scraps of ribbon between the prongs of the brads before inserting them through the paper.  The leaves are actually the negative of the diecut (the leaves were cut out of the white cardstock).  I originally wanted to emboss the white background but it just looked way too busy so I opted to add a few scored lines using my Scor-Pal instead.  I liked this much better!

The second card is one that I helped my friend make to give the birthday gals.  I love, love, love this embossing folder!  (my new favorite, I think!)  My friend Tracy got me hooked on it.  Funny how that happens.  *rolling eyes*

Once again, this is a great way to use up your ribbon scraps.  Just punch or diecut a shape and tape the ends of the ribbons to the backside.  Easy!

a Magnolia treat

Recently I pulled out a Sizzix Score Boards die that I purchased a while back but hadn’t had a chance to use…or maybe I was a bit intimidated by it.  LOL.  Either way, here’s a sweet little box I made.  It was really super easy.

I covered some cereal box cardboard with patterned papers (front & back), then die cut the box…the little flowers are on the die too.  The die cuts part-way through the cardboard and leaves an unfinished edge when folded so I added some crackle paint to the edges for a distressed look.

A close up of the Magnolia mini (from Magnolia-licious) and the crackle paint…

You could fill this little box with lots of things, I’m sure.  I slid the ribbon off and tucked a pack of gum inside.

Have a great day!

you rock!

Last week I needed some masculine cards and since I never seem to have those on hand, I pulled out the SU! Extreme Elements and Extreme Skateboard to make a few of these…

I love gray and yellow together!  Theres a lot of great cards floating around in this color scheme.  And I thought the brick embossing folder would be perfect for the background.  After embossing, I swiped over the raised design with a white craft inkpad to highlight it.

Here’s a side view…the skateboard dude was carefully cut out and popped up.

Have a great week!

a tweet tag

Happy Earth Day!  Today it’s my turn to post on the Stampavie blog and I’ve made a tag for a birthday gift for a dear friend using Bird on Dogwood Branch.

I drew the colors for my tag from the pretty bag.  It was colored with markers and I used a bit of blue chalk on the background.

You may not tell but the bag is very sparkly so I added a bit of Stickles to the butterfly and flower centers.  The sentiment is popped up on dimensionals.

Have a “tweet” day!

Babette Sewing

Good morning!  I can’t believe April is here already!  Today I have a Sarah Kay card using the new Babette Sewing image.  I think I will save this card for Mother’s Day next month…it would be perfect, don’t you think?

To go along with the sewing theme of the image I decided to make a background that would resemble a quilt by using skinny strips of paper and the Herringbone technique.  Babette was cut out and popped up with dimensionals.

Have a great Monday!
