quick & easy ornament tags

Hello!  It’s a relaxing Saturday with beautiful weather today!  I am catching up and getting things checked off my mental to-do list.  Cleaning, rearranging a cupboard, canning some yummies… feels great!  I just took a break and pulled out some Sweet ‘n Sassy goodies and made a few quick & easy tags for Christmas (it will be here before you know it!!).

Yesterday, Sweet ‘n Sassy featured a few of the new Christmas items that were released this month.  Here I used the Christmas Ornament Tag Die Set, along with the Celebrate the Savior and Christmas Tag Sentiments Clear Stamp Sets.

These are super easy and go together in NO time.  I just added another diecut tag to the back (folded and glued at the top) with “to” and “from” stamped inside.

Thanks for popping in and… happy stamping!

bunny tag

Hello friends and happy Thursday!

Today I am on the Art Impressions blog with an Easter tag using the Ai Bunny & Egg wood mount stamp found in Hobby Lobby stores.  This cute image is also available on the Ai website in a large (3098) and small (3099) version.

I didn’t want to fill a basket this time, so a tag on a spring-colored bag was the way to go.  I filled the bag with some Easter plates, napkins, and a few treats.

bunny tag 3 diane zechman

I actually layered two light blue tags and die cut an oval in the top one.  The image was sandwiched between and centered in the oval opening.  Then I layered some die cut grass so the oval would look more egg-shaped.

I hope you have fun creating your own Easter projects!  Have a great day and… happy stamping!

a helping hand

Hello friends!  It’s time for another Challenge Chicks Challenge!

We’re a small group of friends who post a new challenge on the second Sunday of each month…no stress, no deadlines…just for fun.  And we’d love to have you join us!  This month it is Kelly’s turn and her challenge is “Wrap it Up…Make a tag that coordinates with your gift wrap“.

Here’s my tag… the words were typed on the computer.

helping hand 2 diane zechman

My tag is a super simple one and my “gift wrap” is actually the oven mitt itself!  I work in an elementary school and this was a gift for someone who helped in our classroom.  All the kids wrote their names on the oven mitt with a Sharpie and then the mitt became the “wrapping” as it was filled with some treats.  🙂

Please join us and create a tag that coordinates with your wrapping… then share it on our Facebook page!  Also, you can upload it to the Splitcoast gallery…and use the keyword CHXNOV15.  Now be sure to click on the links below to check out what the other Chicks created!  Here’s who’s playing this month:

love you tons

Hello friends!

It’s week two of the current Ai Challenge, “Anything Goes”.  This week I am sharing another watercolor card I made with two of Ai’s watercolor sets… EZ Project A (4271) and Blooming Birdhouse (4603). I also used the cute little elephant from Elephant & Pig Set (4505).

I had an extra diecut tag left over from this watercolor project for the last challenge, so I turned it upright and used it in a different layout.

I thought it would be cute to have the little elephant peeking over the watercolor gate.  🙂

Now it’s your turn to create a card and join us in the “Anything Goes” Challenge!

Happy stamping!

watercolor trio

Hello friends!

It’s week two of the current Ai Challenge, “Create a Card Set” (make 3 or more similar cards).  This week I am sharing a trio of watercolor cards I made with two of Ai’s watercolor sets… EZ Project A (4271) and Blooming Birdhouse (4603).  I also used the sentiment Thought of You (3170).

I usually color with Copics so it was a nice change of pace to use a different method and try water-coloring again.  Here’s some pics of the individual cards… I just changed up the images and patterned paper/cardstock flags.

It doesn’t show in the pics but there’s a faint blue painted around the images.  The diecut tags are popped with dimensionals and a few rhinestones were added to finish them off, along with some ribbon and twine.

Now it’s your turn to make a few similar cards and join us in the Create A Card Set Challenge!

locker tags

Happy first day of Spring!  And we are celebrating with….drumroll please….MORE SNOW….ugh!  It looks like tomorrow the temps will be in the upper 40’s but colder again after that.  I neeeed some flowers.  ;^)

A few months ago my daughter asked if I could make some locker tags for her and a few friends at work.  They all said what colors and theme they liked.  I forgot to take a pic of the first one before I gave it to her friend so here it is hanging on the locker.  (They are nurses, hence the medical tape to hang it…lol!)

locker tag jill diane zechman

I cut squares of patterned paper for a quilted look on Jill’s.  She likes purple so I used an old pack of paper by Making Memories.  Nice purples are hard to find!

This was not for me…but I like Diane’s request for the color coral and a beachy theme!  Stamps are by Sweet ‘n Sassy…linked below.

Linda likes dogs and wanted orange & blue.  I thought this sentiment would be perfect…because a nursing shift can get pretty stressful!

Silent Night tag

I am a little late (or very early!) in sharing this Christmas tag that I made for a class.  It was supposed to be done in December but with all the holiday activities, our group didn’t meet…and I didn’t prepare it.. until the end of January.

Sizzix Christmas tag diane zechman

The Sizzix Carolers were cut from Grunge board, sponged black, and popped up.  Their feet were attached to the tag, though, without any foam dimensionals underneath.  The Sizzix lamp post and fence were cut from black cardstock.  The background was sponged with Distress Inks and I applied Crystal Lacquer to the top of the lamp post to resemble glass.  I liked how it had a few tiny bubbles in it.  The banner words are from Sweet & Sassy.

The berries also have some Crystal Lacquer on them.

Our friend Lisa, the owner of the shop, had the Sizzix Cobblestones die and it was perfect to create a street for them to stand on.

Sizzix Christmas tag cobblestones diane zechman

How to make the cobblestones:  I knew there wasn’t enough time in a class to piece together all the “stones” in this die so I decided to create a stencil with it.  The acetate we had was too thick to cut through so we just made our “stencil” out of cardstock.  The Cobblestones die was diecut from cardstock and the stones were discarded.  The “grout” was held in place over a strip of black cardstock with removable tape.  Embossing ink was applied over the stencil and then then stencil was removed.  Pumice Stone Distress embossing powder was added and then heated to create the look of cobblestones.

Thanks for looking in and have a great weekend!

snowy scene tag

Christmas will soon be here…are you ready?  I hope you are enjoying the holiday preparations.  May you have peace and joy as we celebrate the true meaning of Christmas!

Today I have a snowy tag using the Sweet ‘n Sassy Hillside Edges dies, Spectacular Snowflakes dies, Small Snowflakes dies, and Christmas Silhouettes stamp set (sentiment).  The snowy scene was created with an old technique using packing tape and ultra fine glitter.

hillside edges tag diane zechman

hillside edges tag close diane zechman

To create this tag, I started with a 3 1/2 x 8 1/2 inch piece of cardstock and scored it at 4 1/4″.  The fold will be at the top of your tag.

To make the tag shape, I cut a 1 inch square in half diagonally and traced one of the pieces on each top corner and cut on the traced lines.

Next I diecut the second largest snowflake die (Spectacular Snowflakes dies) from the front of the tag.

At this point you can decorate the “inside” of the tag however you want.  I used the Hillside Edges dies and colored them with markers.

Now the fun part…adhere clear packing tape to the inside of the front layer, making sure you completely cover the diecut opening.  Then apply ultra-fine glitter to the front of the tag (it will stick inside your diecut window where the packing tape was placed).

Adhere the front to the back with double-sided tape (Scor-Tape works great!) and finish as desired.  I used a Small Snowflake diecut and a sentiment from Christmas Silhouettes.

November Paper Pumpkin projects

It has been a while since I got to create with the SU! Paper Pumpkin kits.  Most of my time this year was spent enjoying the preparations of my daughter’s wedding.  (I still need to share those pics too!)  Now that things have settled down, I want to catch up on those little boxes of fun.  And I was thrilled that this month had a kit to help me get moving on my Christmas cards and tags!

I usually like to put my own spin on the projects but this time I mostly followed the instructions… with just a few slight changes.  Then I created some extras with the leftover pieces.  This kit creates 8 Christmas cards plus 12 tags.  I made an extra 9 cards and 9 tags for a total of 17 cards and 21 tags!  🙂

Here’s the card that is in the kit.  The instructions say to add that blue punch-out snowflake to the envelope but I want these to be mailable so I added them to the front of the card instead.

On the inside, I tilted the sentiment panel and added a stamped snowflake.

paper pumpkin nov 2014 b

Since I didn’t add the blue flake to the envelopes, I stamped them.  Much more postal friendly!

paper pumpkin nov 2014 c

These layered tags in the kit are so cute!  I stuck with the plan but added a stamped snowflake to the inside.

paper pumpkin nov 2014 d

When I was finished with the directions there were still PLENTY of leftover pieces so I kept going.  I only had to add some extra cardstock, a few extra rhinestones, etc.

I didn’t throw away the cardstock negatives from the silver and blue punch-out snowflakes.  I cut the blue piece into strips and got 5 cards in this design…

paper pumpkin nov 2014 e

I only made one of this one but I think this might be my favorite.  I can’t believe I STILL have extra Washi tape left…

paper pumpkin nov 2014 f

Here I added some green and brown and got 3 cards of this design.

paper pumpkin nov 2014 g

The leftover piece of silver from the silver snowflakes was cut into squares and I got 7 of these cute tags!

paper pumpkin nov 2014 h

And lastly, I threw together these 2 tiny tags.  The blue flake fit perfectly into the silver negative piece.

I hope these have inspired you to use your leftover pieces to create more fun Paper Pumpkin projects!
