Matthew 28:6

I did a little bible journaling last night and with Easter soon upon us, I used my Sweet ‘n Sassy set called Jesus Paid It All.  I really wanted to try acrylic paints so I chose some “sunrise” colors to create my background. Many thanks to my friend Lisa at The Craft Shack for helping me out with some colors I didn’t have!  She also has a quatrefoil stencil that I used a bit on the page.

Oh, and Lisa also helped me out with a few scraps of patterned paper when I decided to do a few mixed media layers on the “grass” at the bottom. I think I owe her a card! lol.

I scraped the paints on thin so the words can still be read.  Before I began this page, I had mostly planned it in my head…and I was concerned that I would mess up while stamping the solid crosses in a dark color. So my solution was to stamp them on acetate with Stazon ink and washi tape it in place as a sort of “tip in”.  It can be flipped to read the words underneath (bonus!).

Hope it inspires you to get creative!  Have a great weekend!

Luke 2 continued…

One evening last week I came home from dinner out with friends and I was wide awake and motivated to do some bible journaling.  I remembered a photo that someone shared back before Christmas which had a drawing of Linus on their page and they mentioned that Linus “knows who his real security is”. It really struck deep with me.  It seems like I’ve watched A Charlie Brown Christmas a hundred times but I never realized that he dropped his blanket while reciting the scriptures. Here’s the page that I have done.

Luke 2 cont. diane zechman

I didn’t prep my page. I started out very adamant that I wanted to prep, but about 4 pages in, I decided that I love it so much better not prepped.  I found a Peanuts font to trace the words “Fear Not”.

Here’s a video clip from You Tube of Linus explaining the true meaning of Christmas…and dropping his blanket!

Have a great day!

Sooo…the big question this time of year is always… “Are you ready for Christmas?”.  Umm…No. We finally got our tree up Sunday night. I still have baking and shopping to do. But on Christmas Eve, I hope I can say “Yes, I’m ready.” ha.

I was playing around, though, with some salt dough ornaments using my Poinsettias & Candles stamp set and one of my Christmas cookie stamps.

I mixed my dough and rolled it out on freezer paper, then cut the hearts by hand.  I used 1/2 cup flour, 1/4 cup salt and 1/4 cup warm water but my mixture was sticky and needed more flour. Next time I’ll add more salt or less water. Use a toothpick or straw to make a hole.

The hearts were stamped with Versafine ink.

I baked them in a toaster oven at 200 degrees and flipped them a few times (not sure how long) but my toaster oven runs hot so next time I’ll use the regular oven.  The toaster oven browned them a bit…so I sponged some Distress Vintage Photo on to “age” them.

This might be my last post before the holiday so I hope you all have a blessed Christmas!

jingle notepad

Hello friends and happy Thursday!

Today I am on the Art Impressions blog with another fun project I recently made for a stamping event with friends.  The theme was “Jingle All The Way”.  Here I made a covered notepad with a magnetic closure using the super fun gal from Ai’s Reindeer Games Set (4351).  The sentiment is from the Jingle Set (4681).

Just about everyone could use a cute notepad for all those holiday lists, right?  I would be lost without them!

I used a reindeer embossing folder for part of the background.  I also added some sparkle to her belt with a glitter pen and some Crystal lacquer on her glasses but they didn’t photograph well.

Check out those jingle bell earrings!  I found some bell brads in my stash that were perfectly sized!  They really jingle!

jingle notepad 3 diane zechman

The notepad is a Jr. Legal size pad which was cut in half vertically.  I had these cut quite a few years ago but you can ask for them to be cut at your local office supply store.  I never added a magnetic closure before, though, which was inspired by a special friend from Canada, Michele.  I love the magnetic closure!

NOTE- I started with a 6 1/2 x 8 1/8 inch piece of cardstock and scored the 6 1/2″ side @ 2 1/2, 2 3/4, 5 1/4, and 5 1/2.

The layers on the front are 2 3/8 x 8 and 2 1/4 x 7 7/8.

While I was typing this, Frank Sinatra was popping in my mind… “I love those J-I-N-G-L-E bells, OH!….”  Don’t you love Christmas music while crafting?

Sooo….if it’s stuck in my head, might as well be stuck in yours too!  lol.

Ai Place Card Pals

Hello friends!

The current Ai Challenge is “Cards to DIE For (Use 2+ Dies)”…and we are featuring several NEW Ai products…2 Place Card Pals sets of dies, 1 Mini TryFold set (includes dies), and a sweet little set of Snowflake Dies!

For today, I made two very different Place Card Pals.  I used both the Cat & Owl Placecard Set (4805) AND the Christmas Placecard Set (4806) on each of them.

First, I started with the Cat & Owl set and rounded the ears a bit by hand. A red nose (owl eye) and some antlers (owl foot) turned him into a cutesy Rudolf.

Then I switched thoughts from Christmas and used the Christmas set of dies to create a duck.  How cute would these be at a baby shower?  Instead of a nametag here, I added a sentiment from the Bunny & Ducky Mini Set (4404) .  I used the holly leaf for his tuft of hair, the paw die for his beak, and the mustache was cut in half for his wings.

Keep checking the Ai blog because there are unlimited possibilities with these dies and I’m sure the DT will be sharing some great ideas!!

Now it’s your turn to make a card with 2 or more dies and join us in the new Ai Challenge!  We would love to see your creations!

Happy stamping!

Fright Night gum treat

Hello friends and happy Thursday!

Is it too early to be thinking of Halloween?  I hope not!  I have a friend who loves Halloween so it would never be too early for her.  Today I am on the Art Impressions blog with a Halloween gum treat using a NEW clear set that is now appearing in your local AC Moore craft stores!  This set is called Fright Night (SC0735) and includes an owl, Frankenstein, and cat, PLUS a matching die to cut the images out!

fright night treat 2 diane zechman pc

I started with some packs of gum that have a sleeve and a piece that slides out with the gum inside individual “bubbles”.  Then I measured and wrapped the packs with patterned paper.  Before adhering the paper, I wrapped it around and traced the half-circle openings.  I punched those out of the paper with a 3/4″ circle punch.  Then the paper was secured with Scor-Tape.

The outside was decorated with my Copic colored and die cut images.  A cute sentiment from the set was heat embossed with white embossing powder onto a black cardstock strip.

On the inside, I used little glue dots to attach some die cut bats to each gum “bubble”.  (Psst… the bat dies and the little pumpkin die on the front are a sneak peek and will be appearing in a stamp set in a few weeks!)  🙂

I hope you liked this little treat project.  Have a great day and… happy stamping!

a new creation

Just popping in quick to share a page of my Bible art journaling.  I really wanted to do butterflies and so I picked 2 Corinthians 5:17 to journal.  When I was looking through my SNSS stash of butterflies, I was pleasantly surprised to find a stamp with that verse…totally forgot about it!

2 Corinthians 5 17 diane zechman

My page was first prepped with clear Gesso.  The two butterflies over the words were stamped on vellum with Stazon and colored on the reverse side with Copics, then only attached to the page in the center so I can still read the words. The other stamping was with Versafine Black and watercolored.  The clouds were done with my hand drawn/cut cloud stencil.

The butterfly tab at the top was inspired by Kelly Gettelfinger and was also done with vellum.

I will be teaching this page later this month, so if you are local and want to join us, call The Craft Shack for more info!

bible journaling

Good morning, friends!  Today I am sharing my first two pages of Bible art journaling.

I have to say that I struggled at first to get started with creating art in my Bible…even though I purchased one for this specific purpose.  What if I mess up?  After all, it is the Bible.  But.. Bible journaling is not about creating beautiful artwork… it’s about focusing on the scripture and connecting with God.  Now go back and read that last sentence again…and again.  Because that’s what I needed to remind myself.  It’s ok to mess up.  Really.

Then I struggled with whether I wanted to share it online.  Again, the focus is not to be on the artwork, but the scripture.  But I am so grateful for all who DO share their pages and give us plenty of inspiration.  I may not share every page, as some may be personal.  But here goes…

I am actually sharing my second page first.  There were plenty of patriotic pages for inspiration around the 4th and I didn’t want to let July slip by without doing a flag.  Especially with all that is going on in the world right now.  I decided to journal Galatians 5:13.

Galatians 5 13 diane zechman

I only prepped the side column with clear gesso before stamping the letters / words.  The flag was traced and colored with colored pencils (I just grabbed Crayola here).  “Serve” and “love” were also colored in with pencils.

On the flag page, I used the following Sweet ‘n Sassy sets- Cold Coffee Alpha, All Your Heart, Seek Him, and You’re A Star.

For my first page, I journaled Luke 15:6.  Here I prepped the whole page.  The grass, clouds and sky were sponged with a dye-based ink.  I hand drew and cut my own cloud template from cardstock.

Luke 15 6 diane zechman

On this page I used these Sweet ‘n Sassy sets- Prim Blessings, Decorative Banners, Just Be, and Common Words 1,

Love Thing gift bag

Hello friends!

The current Ai Challenge is “Love, Love, Love!” and we are featuring two new Valentine Stamp Sets!

I wanted to make something other than a card, so I used the NEW Love Thing Set (4752) to create a valentine gift bag!  What would YOU place inside?  Chocolates, maybe?

Love Thing gift bag diane zechman

I kept the panels of patterned paper in softer colors and patterns to focus on the cute couple…aren’t they sweet?

Sharing chocolates is a good thing.  🙂
