give thanks Silverware Pocket

Another Halloween has come and gone and we are movin’ on to Thanksgiving!  Seriously…is it November already?

The first day of the month means it’s time for a new Scor-Pal challenge.  This month’s theme is Family/Thanksgiving.  When families get together, we usually eat!  So today’s project is all about the Thanksgiving table and giving thanks.

I created a super simple Silverware Pocket that would look great at each place setting.  (Or they would look cute to fill them up and place them all in a basket if you have a large family gathering and serve the food buffet style.)

I didn’t add the napkin behind the utensils so I could get a photo of the scored back but you can easily slip a napkin in there too and they’d be good to go!

To make the pocket, I started with a piece of 4 1/4″ x 11″ cardstock (half a sheet).  Score the 11″ side at 4″ and fold.

Next I diagonally scored the back every 1/2″ in both directions.

Finally, use Scor-Tape on both sides of the pocket to keep it closed, or stitch with a sewing machine as I have done.  Then decorate your silverware pocket as desired.

Now check out the other fun projects on the Scor-Pal blog and play along!

flowers in bloom

I finally got a chance again to play along with one of the weekly SCS challenges.  Here’s a card I made for Wednesday’s Sketch challenge.

The flowers are from Sweet ‘n Sassy’s Flowers in Bloom stamp set.  I also used the NEW coordinating Flowers in Bloom die.  I should have taken another pic so you could see the sparkle from the Wink of Stella brush.  Also, the butterfly was stamped a second time, cut out, and popped up with foam dots.

I hope you are enjoying the gorgeous fall colors and beautiful weather we’ve been having.  This has been a great year for enjoying the beauty of the changing leaves!

I masked the edges of my main panel before stamping the text background. Then I lightly sponged the edges before removing the mask.

Selma & Gladys

Hello friends!  It’s time for another Challenge Chicks Challenge!  We’re a small group of friends who post a new challenge on the first Sunday of each month…no stress, no deadlines…just for fun.  And we’d love to have you join us!  This month it is my turn and my challenge is “Giggle Greetings”- Make a humorous card!  Who doesn’t love a funny card?

When it comes to funny cards, a few companies come to mind.  One that I love is Art Impressions…especially the Golden Oldies.  These two ladies are Selma and Gladys, a few of my faves!  They crack me up!

The bubbles say “Oh my dear, those stripes are sooo slimming!” and “Good heavens! that skirt does wonders!”.  Inside the card it reads “Friends always know just the right things to say!“.  ha!  I can so relate to these ladies…friends can be the best!

Here’s a bit closer photo of the ladies.  I colored them with Copics.

The striped suit was brushed with a clear Wink Of Stella pen and I went over the tiny green “skirt” also.  I really wish it was easier to photograph sparkles!  I took a tilted shot but it’s still hard to see.

    birthday cookie

Today starts a new challenge on the Scor-Pal blog!  This month’s theme is Food For Thought.  We’d love for you to play along with us and make a card or project that is food related!  I used the tutorial for a Mini Pizza Box and created a little treat box to hold a birthday cookie.  (Because who doesn’t love a chocolate chip cookie??)

After cutting and scoring the box, I added the patterned paper (which is very sparkly) to the top.  Then I die cut a window and added a die cut frame.  The inside of the window was lined with a piece of clear acetate.  Then the box was adhered with Scor-Tape.  A half circle was punched on the front of the lid to ease in opening the box.

Finally, I used some Sweet ‘n Sassy stamps to decorate my box.  The flower and matching die is from Long Stem Silhouettes, the butterflies and coordinating dies are from Majestic Monarchs, and the sentiment is from Birthday Word Art.  Some clear Wink Of Stella was applied to the butterflies and flowers for some added sparkle which unfortunately doesn’t show up in the photo.

Here’s a photo of the box open.

What a cute little way to wish someone a happy day, don’t you think?

    from our house to yours

Last night I played along with this week’s Sketch challenge and used my Happy Home stamp set…

I added the extra panel because my main image was smaller than I anticipated.  But I think it’s extra cute with the polka-dotty paper behind it.  😉

stamps- Sweet ‘n Sassy Happy Home; paper- white, black, SU! Marina Mist, American Crafts Hip Hip Hooray; accessories- Copics, tracing wheel, Stickles.

    it’s your birthday

Wow…I finally found some time last night to stamp!  I combined three of this week’s SCS challenges (Sketch, Ways To Use It, and Free For All) and came up with this.

I used the Sweet ‘n Sassy Lots-A-Spots, Birthday Word Art, and my Valentine Critters stamp sets.
