4×6 Photo Storage/Display Box

Do you have photos to give to family or friends and need a way to present them?  Have photos that you’ve printed or received and don’t want to shove them in a drawer, never to be seen again?  My project today may be the solution.  I’ve used my Scor-Pal and Scor-Tape to create decorative boxes that hold 4×6 photos.  Display them on a shelf or give as a gift…they would suit any occasion.  (a box of new baby photos would be adorable!)  Since we have wedding pics here, I made this set in black & white.  It’s very easy and I designed this box to be made from one 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper.

Supplies: 8 1/2 x 11 cardstock or heavy patterned paper (white, DCWV used here), Scor-Pal, Scor-Tape, photo or printer, and any additional embellishments as desired (Stickles and pearls used here).

First choose a photograph for the front of your box.  I didn’t want my photo to be glossy, but rather seem to be a part of the box itself.  So I printed my photo onto white cardstock and cut it out.  Before printing, I added some text to the photo.

Next choose some coordinating paper or cardstock.  Starting with an 8 1/2 x 11 piece, score the 11″ side @ 1, 1 3/4, 6, and 6 3/4.

Turn the paper 90 degrees.  Align the left edge to the 1/8″ groove.  Now score the 8 1/2″ side @ 1/2, 1 1/4, 7 1/2 and 8 1/4.

Using the following diagram, cut and fold the box.  Remove shaded areas.  (click on diagram for larger pic.  Right click on it to save to your computer).

It should now look like this:

Before assembling the box, attach your photo. Then apply Scor-Tape as shown.

Assemble the box.  Trim the corners of the tabs if necessary when folding and inserting the ends.  Decorate as desired.

When using for display, making 3 coordinating boxes looks nice.  For special occasions or new baby, add names, dates, etc. to the sides.

birdie tea bag book

Several years ago I made one of these tea bag books for the first time and with the release of my Special Blend stamp set, it seemed the perfect opportunity to create another one. It’s still one of my favorite templates. They make a cute little gift and this week I needed a little “thank you” for a friend.

The original template I made can be found here.  After scoring and sponging the cover, I attached patterned paper to each section.

Decorative paper was scored, folded, punched, and adhered to form pockets… then attached to the inside at the spine.  Jumbo eyelets and ribbon were also added to the spine.  Here the pockets were stamped with additional images from Special Blend and tea bags were inserted.

On the left, the roses on the cup were paper pieced with a scrap of patterned paper.

And here’s a close up of the right side.

I hope you enjoy creating a tea bag book of your own!

going green

It’s time for a new Challenge Chicks challenge!

This month it’s Anna’s turn and her challenge is “It’s Not Easy Being Green“.  You can choose to use the color green, go green & upcycle, etc.  I chose to upcycle five TGI Friday’s drink coasters (love their Mango Peach Lemonade)…

and turn them into a box to hold my adhesive pearls…

A friend of mine, Judy K, made a similar box several years ago which hold my gemstones.  It was holding both gemstones and pearls but I really needed a second box!  Now maybe I’ll find what I’m looking for a bit easier.

These boxes are very simple to make.  Just cover 5 chipboard coasters with designer paper.  (I like to cut the paper a bit larger and then trim the excess with scissors.)  Then punch holes down two opposite sides on 4 of the coasters with a Crop-A-Dile.  The fifth one is the base and will not be punched.  Tie the sides together with ribbon.  When you have the sides adjusted as you like, fit it over the base, trimming the base slightly if needed.  Remove, then add a bit of glue around each side of the base coaster and attach in place.

Did you notice the gorgeous flower stamp on the front?  It’s a sneak peek of one of Korin’s new Sweet ‘n Sassy sets being released Friday!  (shhh)   😉

I cut and layered the center of the flower, shaping the petals a bit…then added some tiny pearls.

    happy heart day!

Just wanted to wish you all a happy Valentine’s day!  I hope your day is extra special.  Here’s another quick valentine treat I made with the retired SU! Petal Card die to hold a Ghirardelli chocolate square.

I folded and attached 3 sides of the diecut…then wrapped a heart doily around the sides and glued it in place.  The red and white heart (minus the ribbon) is a felt piece that my friend, Susan, had attached to an envelope with my birthday card.  I couldn’t bear to throw it away so I re-purposed it onto this project.  🙂  The rest was just bits and scraps leftover from previous projects.

    Have a great day!

    sparrows mini calendar

Hello!  Today is my first post as Guest Designer on the Sweet ‘n Sassy blog.  For my first project with the new release stamp sets, I have something other than a card.  I’ve made another mini magnetic calendar to give you a sneak peek of the new Springtime Sparrows set being released this Friday.  I thought the verse would be great for a “daily reminder” hanging on the refrigerator.

Scraps of patterned paper were glued to a 4″ square chipboard coaster.  The beautiful sparrows image was stamped directly onto the patterned paper and the branches were colored with Copics.  The birds and flowers were stamped again onto white cardstock…then colored, cut out, and attached over the original image.  A few flowers were popped up with dimensionals.

I’m looking forward to sharing more SNSS projects.  🙂  Have a great Tuesday!

    ♥  Diane

    a Valentine challenge

Today the Challenge Chicks have a new challenge for February!

This month Kelli asked us to make valentines.  So…instead of a card I went with a valentine treat (with chocolate!).   :0)  I even got out my sewing machine!

I used my favorite valentine image from a retired SU! set.  I just think this boy and girl are so sweet!

Inside the heart shaped box are a few ghirardelli chocolates.

I even added some matching paper to the inside…

Directions for the box can be found in this post.

    some Sweet ‘n Sassy news!

Hello!  I am thrilled to share some news today!  It was such an honor and sweet surprise to be asked to Guest Design for Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps for February!  What fun!  Thanks, Janette, for inviting me!

On Tuesday I will have my first project to share with the February release stamps…both here and on the Sweet ‘n Sassy blog.  In the meantime, here’s a little valentine treat using SNSS’s Owl Be There set.

Is this owl cuuute or what???  ♥   I knew right away it would be super fun to paper piece.  🙂

The little treat pocket was made with the retired SU! Petal Card die.  And the scalloped piece behind the top is from the SU! Petal Cone die.  (I made a treat cone at a friend’s house and threw the extra scalloped piece in my bag…it fit perfectly here.  Thanks, Shannon!)  When three of the flaps on the diecut are folded in, it makes a super cute pocket that perfectly holds a Ghirardelli square.

Have a great weekend!  I gotta ask…what happened to January?  FLEW right by!

    mini magnetic calendars

It’s been a few years since I’ve made these little magnetic coaster calendars…I almost forgot how FUN they are!

I’ve had the chipboard coasters in my stash but the webstore where I used to get the calendars seems to be out of business.  phooey.  Luckily, while searching, I found them at Taylored Expressions…and I know how fabulous Taylor is so I had no qualms about ordering them there!  🙂

I covered the 4″ coasters with various scraps of patterned paper, attached the calendars, and decorated them with some fun Paper Smooches stamps.  Then I added some bling and pearls to finish them off.  All they need yet is a magnet on the back.  They’ll be perfect for a little random RAK, don’tcha think?

    Some closer views…

Hope you are keeping warm!!  It’s 5 degrees here….BRRRRRR!
