origami kitty

I LOOOVE shaped cards.  Love ’em!  So a few days ago I thought it would be fun to make a kitty card.  Not sure why.  Just for fun.

I thought it might be fun to see how difficult an origami kitty would be so I googled and found a super EASY one.  You gotta try it.  Here’s a diagram.

And here’s the kitty I made…

You can start with any size squares you want.  I started with two 4″ squares of Fancy Pants Hopscotch paper.  (A Scor-Pal helps to get nice folds if you have one.)

Have a great holiday weekend!  Thanks to all who serve our country!

dust it off!

It’s time for a new Challenge Chicks challenge!  Yay!

This month Kelly challenged us to do some Spring Cleaning!  Dig out some old supplies and create something new!  Well, that shouldn’t be hard, right?  I’ve been wanting to use lots of my “older” stuff so this was fun.  Here’s my card…

I have to say this is much prettier and softer in person.  My most un-favorite part is editing photos.  😉  I used an old stamp set from SU! called And Everything Nice, an old favorite color of cardstock which is retiring…waaah (Regal Rose) ♥, and some older DCWV paper.  I hope you like it!

Come play along and show us your Spring Cleaning projects on our Facebook page! And use the keyword CHXAPR13 if you upload to the SCS gallery. Now be sure to click on the links below to check out what the other Chicks created!

Scor-Pal is taking part in the SCS Love Fest…have you checked it out?

Scor-Pal’s challenge is Flip, Flap or Oodles of Folds. Here’s the card I’ve created using Kelly Gettelfinger’s Twisted Greeting card tutorial found here.

Come join the fun…there’s prizes too!

    here a chick…there a chick…and a pattern

I received an e-mail with a request for the pattern to make these chicken cards.  The original design is by Michele Ghent (mitchygitchygoomy on SCS) and she was inspired by the ever-talented Anna Wight and her illustration, Rollerderby Hen.  Michele does not have the pattern online to download but she (and Anna) have graciously given permission to post it here.

And….I figured as long as I was sharing the template, I might as well make a card or two.  😉

I had traced Michele’s card a while back and saved it on my computer.  You can use a heart punch for the comb and either trace a heart for the wing or use a heart die.  I cut the beak and wattle out together and extended the right side a bit for an area to glue but you can cut the beak and wattle out separately if you like.  I glued the beak & wattle to the inside of the card, and the heart “comb” to the back of the card.

Right click on the pattern & click “save as” to download to your computer.

And if you like what you see, go give Michele and Anna some love.  🙂

stamp- sentiment from Paper Smooches Green Acres; paper- DCWV Green Stack, vanilla; ink- Distress Tea Dye, Memento Rich Cocoa; accessories- heart punch.

    Let it SNOW-MEN!

It’s time for another Challenge Chicks Challenge and this month Jeanne chose the theme of snowmen!  Fun!  I made 2 cards to share today…the first is super easy, a CAS card, and didn’t actually have any stamping involved.

I simply hand cut a rounded top to my card base, then hand cut a nose, hat, and scarf.  I added some faux stitching and two buttons…that’s it!

For my second card, I followed this past week’s tutorial on Splitcoast for a Flip Down Stack Card.  Pictured is the card with the stack folded up and also with the stack after it flipped down.  I used the Paper Smooches Warm Hearts stamp set.  Instead of using a photo turn or magnetic closure, I used sticky-back velcro on the tab.

The hearts and trees were paper pieced.

I used the same snowman for all three frames…just stamped him in different directions…

Now go check out what the other chicks created!

    some penguin fun

This month for our DD/DD Alumni Christmas card challenge, Stacy inspired us with a More Is More challenge.  Which means you need to create 2 versions of your card…one simpler card and one in which you “kick it up”.  I’ve been wanting to try Dina’s penguin template so here’s my “More Is More” penguins…

I made a little hat for the penguins which I probably should have left off the first one but I thought he was cuter with it on.  For the kicked up version, I used patterned paper for his body, embossed his tummy, gave him a string of stars, and added some fake snow to his hat and feet.

    Scor-Pal and Hampton Art

This past week Scor-Pal teamed up with Hampton Art and today I will share the 2 cards that I made.  Hampton Art has some great images, including this Home Tweet Home set with lots of fun images to put together.

First I created a 3-D House shaped card following the directions by our Scor-Pal design team member, Virginia Nebel.  I love shaped cards and this one is very easy to create with the Scor-Pal.  A punched circle was added to the front to turn it into a birdhouse.  The bird on the swing, along with the sentiment, was one of my favorites from the stamp set.

This house card is designed to stand up on it’s own.  A view from the top shows the folded sides.

Next I made a Z-fold card.  My cardfront was scored at 2″ and folded back.  The edge was torn and an additional torn layer was added underneath.  This fold was attached to the cardfront.  Don’t you just love the birdhouse camper?  Cute!

One great thing about clear stamps is the way you can bend them when mounting onto a clear block.  Here I curved the sentiment to compliment the shape of the images.

Thanks for joining us.  Be sure to check out all the fun projects on the Scor-Pal and Hampton Art blogs!

Z-Fold card: stamps- Hampton Art Home Tweet Home; paper- white, Momenta Kaleidoscope; ink- Colorbox Pigment Espresso and Boysenberry, SU! Celery, Banana, Bermuda, Curry, and Razzleberry markers, brown Marvy LePen; accessories- Scor-Pal, Scor-Tape, corner rounder, Memento sticker.

owls and puppies and bears…oh my!

Yes, I am still on a shaped animal card kick…and no, I don’t see it ending soon.  lol.  Sorry!  But I really wanted a bear…a country looking bear.  So I sat down last night and quickly sketched one.  Tonight I cut it out, traced it, and made a pattern to share.  Here’s my Country Bear…

I am thinking next time I will have him hold a heart…or a sentiment.  Any other ideas?

Just keep the fold of your card base slightly below the ears and then add another layer of cardstock or patterned paper over top (with the ears intact).  The finished card fits into an A2 envelope. Be sure to leave me a link if you make one!

UPDATE:  This template is now available on the Sweet ‘n Sassy website.  You can find it HERE.  🙂

paper- Crushed Curry, Chocolate Chip, Cosmo Cricket Tea for Two; ink- Distress Tea Dye; accessories- ribbon.

    more bobble head pups

It was inevitable.  I couldn’t resist making some more bobble head puppies.  They are a bit addicting.

I can’t decide which one I like more.  I think I might have to try some different papers.  ;0)  Don’t you think?  I may be on the hunt for more springs soon.  lol.

    See the heads bobble here.

paper- MME Stella and Rose- Mabel, kraft, white, black; ink- Distress Tea Dye; accessories- Close To My Heart adhesive springs, adhesive rhinestones.

    a critter challenge

Hello!  I have a few fun shaped cards today AND a short video.  :^)  My friends, Anna (SweetMissDaisy) and Jeanne (Jeanne S), and I are having a critter challenge today…making animal shaped cards.  I love, love, love shaped cards and I can’t wait to see what they created…be sure to check out their blogs too!

Jeanne has been making some awesome owls (it’s all her fault that I bought the die! lol)  and I had a lot of fun creating one of my own.  (It won’t be my last!!)  I made some puppy cards too…

Jeanne has pics on her blog to show how to make these dies into cards.  Just keep the fold of your card base slightly below the ears when cutting.  Easy!  For my owl, I added a heart shaped belly and some eyelids (the circle for the eye cut in half).  I think he looks a bit sleepy…or annoyed.  lol.

Then I made 2 puppy dogs.  The first one (on the right) was made just like the owl…with the fold kept just below the top of the ears.

Then I had a different idea and made the second one (on the left, above) with a bobble head!  I made the fold of my card about the height of his nose and trimmed the sides.  Then I diecut a separate head and attached it with a spring!

This was too fun and I think it’s way cuter in person, so here’s a quick video to see the bobble head.  Sorry my table was so slippy…it was hard to hold him and the camera at the same time.

Now don’t go away…I’ve got some chickens too!  I am a long time fan of Anna’s artwork and a few years ago another friend, Michele (mitchygitchygoomy), created a chicken shaped card which was inspired by Anna.  You can read all about it here.  Ever since then I have been wanting to try these so I knew my critter challenge wouldn’t be complete without some of mitchy’s chickens!

Did you notice the “straw” on the bottom?  :^)  These could be addicting.  Just sayin’.  edit: you can find a pattern for the chickens here.

Thanks for reading this far!  Have a great Sunday!
