butterfly shaped card

Hello! Shaped cards are some of my absolute favorites. Today I am sharing this butterfly card at a swap with other stamping friends. Here I used the Spellbinders So Many Butterflies dies and Spellbinders Butterfly Card Creator dies. I made a few extra of this same design and switched out the sentiment to “Happy Mother’s Day”. 🙂 This card would be versatile for many occasions!

To create the card base, I die cut two butterflies and scored the top of the wings (on the back one only). Then I applied glue above the scored lines to adhere the front to the back. The smaller butterfly layer was cut from vellum and embossed with an old, dotted embossing folder. The body is gold cardstock, and the two larger flowers are popped up with foam tape.

The backside…

Have a great day!

secret garden circle easel card

Hello! Today I have a fun fold card using some Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps products in the February new release. I have been wanting to make a shaped card and thought that this stamp set would be great to use on a Circle Easel Card.

Product links: Secret Garden Stamp & Die Bundle, Floral Doily Stencil, Sweet Scalloped Circles Dies, Circles Dies.

I chose a pink base to coordinate with the berries and used the black scalloped die cut to contrast. The stencil was brushed with a soft slate gray ink on the backgrounds. I popped up the small moth and snail with foam dimensionals. The little snail holds the card front in place when the card is opened.

Here’s a photo of the back side.

Have a great week!

more recent cards

Good morning! This is a very image heavy post today but I have quite a few cards to share. Thanks for sticking with me! I’ll try to keep the text short. 🙂

The first card uses the Art Impressions 5319- Birthday Set5317- MB Template Dies5318- MB Envelope Dies5323- MB Wall Accessories, and 5324- MB Cat Accessories. I made this one a few months ago and overlooked it in my files. These are so fun to create and fold up so tiny!

My second card was made in support of Ukraine and was given to someone who has family in shelter there. Praying for everyone in this horrible situation. I used SNSS Beautiful Bouquets Bundle, SNSS Script Background, Sunny Studio Frilly Frames- Lattice, and SU! Stitched So Sweetly dies.

A masculine birthday card using Sizzix Circuit embossing folder and MFT Block Happy Birthday die. The small sentiment is Sweet ‘n Sassy Birthday Wordfetti.

I made a set of CAS thank you cards for a friend who’s father passed away. SU! Punch Party, Trio of Tags Dies, and Evergreen Forest embossing folder.

The next two cards use SU! Forever Fern, The Paper Studio- Eucalyptus paper, MFT Stitched Basic Edges and Scalloped Stitched Basic Edges, and Sizzix Layered Ovals. Colors- Soft Sky, Mossy Meadow, Lost Lagoon, Certainly Celery, Blue Bayou, Soft Seafoam.

A special card for a birthday girl! MFT Friendly Unicorns & Dies, Color Blast Die, and Grassy Hills Die, Lawn Fawn Puffy Cloud Borders, Sweet ‘n Sassy Birthday Wordfetti and Puffy Clouds Stencil.

I made a cute gnome shadow box card with Lawn Fawn Shadow Box Dies, and MFT Hanging With My Gnomies.

Next is two cards with SU! Hand-Penned Petals and Hand-Penned Memories & More cards & envelopes. I also used the SU! Stitched So Sweetly Dies. On the first card I also used a sentiment from SU! Friendly Hello and SSS Stitched Circles Dies. On the second card I also used SU! Here’s A Card, SU! Brick & Mortar embossing folder, and Gina Marie Stitched Rectangles. It was semi-cased from Elizabeth Price (Seeing Inkspots).

Simple black & white versions of a card using word dies… Hero Arts- Hello There stamp & die set.

I went with blue and browns for my bee card… SU! Honeybee Home, SU! Hive embossing folder, and circle punches.

A few alternates from the SU! January 2022 Paper Pumpkin kit. The embossed hearts are from an old Cuttlebug Love Language embossing folder. These were scored to change them from a trifold card to a gatefold. I love shaped cards!

Altenew is known for their florals and the Simple Beauty set was used here to make some sympathy cards. The diecut edge is from MFT Stitched Scallop Basic Edges 2.

I am late getting a start on this year’s Christmas cards but I squeaked out a few with the TH Snarky Christmas Cat set.

Another masculine birthday card. These are harder for me! SU! Snowfront used here with some woodgrain paper.

And lastly, some diecut birthday cards using Sweet ‘n Sassy Sweet Treats Stamp & Die Bundle, Sizzix Happy Birthday Drop-Ins Card Dies, Lawn Fawn Double sided adhesive sheets, and a bunch of 1/2″ cardstock strips!

Thanks for scrolling this far and have a great day!

snow friend like you

I have another card to share today. I was asked to guest design for the Art Impressions blog today and the theme is “Get In Shape…shaped cards…no squares or rectangles”. Well, I do love a shaped card! 🙂

I used a sweeeet snowman, bunny, and bird image from Ai 4935- Sparkle & Cheer Set, along with an old mitten shaped die (Spellbinders Nested Mittens) to create my “cold weather friends” card.

If you don’t have a mitten die, you can easily draw your own pattern or use clip art to make one. Keep the top fold of the card base slightly below the top of the mitten to create the fold. Then add an additional mitten to the front. I embossed the front mitten with Sizzix Knit Set embossing folder and sponged some ink (SU! Pool Party) on it before adhering it to the card front. The images were colored with Copics.

Have a great Thursday!

Cabin Circlet MTF

Hello friends and happy Tuesday! I am posting on Tuesday this week instead of Monday and today I have a masculine card to share using one of the new Ai Circlet MTF sets. Here I used the 4981- Cabin Circlet MTF set. I have already shared 2 ways that I used the new Circlets and here’s the third card I made. I’ll share one more style later!

CHA Jan 2018 1f

I wouldn’t normally make a circle shaped card for a masculine card, but by incorporating some masculine papers and cross-stitched dies, I think it works. First, I stamped and colored each image. The first two were not fully colored where the matching dies will cut them.

CHA Jan 2018 1a

Next, each image was die cut with circle dies and the inside of the first two were die cut with the dies included in the set. Then 3 blue layers were die cut. They are not attached yet here.

CHA Jan 2018 1b

Some patterned paper layers were added to the first two and then the circle images were adhered. The matching dies were laid back inside the images and held in place with low-tack tape. These were run through the machine again to cut a window through the first two blue layers.

CHA Jan 2018 1c

Now each layer is ready to be assembled. (I decided to add some paper scraps and die cut holes on that first one!)

CHA Jan 2018 1d

Using my Scor-Pal, I scored a half inch line at the top of the SECOND and THIRD circles. I didn’t want the top of my card to have score marks, for a nice finished look. Then I adhered the layers together using Scor-Tape on those top 1/2″ scored areas.

CHA Jan 2018 1e

I love how you can peek through from the top circle to the back one!

CHA Jan 2018 1f

This circle card opens sort-of like a book.

Cottage Circlet Set

Hello friends and happy Monday!

Today I am on the Art Impressions blog with a card using one of the new Ai Circlet MTF sets. Here I used the 4982- Cottage Circlet MTF set. Instead of using the new Circlet MTF sets to create fun trifold cards, I created 4 different card styles to give you extra ideas. Keep checking back to see the other 3 card styles I made…I’ll share another one on Thursday.

CHA Jan 2018 2a

For this card, I pulled out some circle dies and used them on each of my three layers. I diecut my images and also patterned papers to layer on the white diecut bases. The first two layers (the fence and cottage) also have a portion of the images cut out with matching dies that are included in the set. When layered, you can peek through each layer to the next image!

I used two Ai mini white brads to attach my circle layers together and placed them on opposite sides so you see each one when they are turned to open. Here’s the first, top layer, turned to open.

CHA Jan 2018 2b

When you also turn the second layer, you see all three.

Here’s a few close ups.

a little carrot house

Hello friends!  The current Ai Challenge is “Feel the Love!” and we are featuring the NEW Holiday Mansion Valentine & Easter Sets, Valentine Bear Clear Set, & the Critter Cups Release!

Here I used the 4976- Holiday Mansion Easter Set to create a carrot shaped card for a cute bunny house.

HM Easter set diane zechman

I drew a carrot shape and traced it onto a scrap of cardstock for a pattern. Then I traced it onto Crumb Cake cardstock twice. The second one is folded at the top for my card base…I just kept the top of the carrot above the fold.

HM Easter set 2 diane zechman

I made a slightly smaller pattern to cut the patterned paper layers. After everything was adhered, I die cut a few circle windows for the bunnies to peek through. I drew a few “faux stitches” around the windows with a black pen.

Now it’s your turn to break out your favorite stamps, make a card, and join us in the “Feel the Love!” Challenge!

Happy stamping!

throwback to 2015…

Happy *cold* Sunday! Brrr…it was -7 again this morning! I am staying warm and while I was typing on the computer, I found a bunch of photos that were never shared so I guess I will be catching up with some forgotten projects! Here’s a few and I’ll pop in with more later.

We’re going back 3 years to 2015 here…lol.  First, a card made with the SU! Lotus Blossom set. The sentiment was from a little SU! incentive stamp.

A thank you card which was a shoebox project for a stamping event that year. I love shaped cards! This one uses flowers from SU! Too Kind and a sentiment with the SU! Greetings Thinlits dies.

An ATC which was for a swap (probably at the same event). This is Art Impressions’ Sitting Lovelle and Heavenly Bodies.

A card I made with supplies at my friends’ craft store for their display. I can’t recall who makes the flower. Hero Arts??

A little paper purse, dress, and shoe gift set…I don’t remember what I put in the purse but I’m guessing there was chocolate in the dress!

And the last one for today is a card with the SU! Animal Talk set. It was inspired by a card I received for my birthday one year.

Oh, but that’s not all I found. 😉  Stay tuned…

sweet wishes mini trifold

Hello friends!  The current Ai Challenge is “Lots of Love” and we are featuring some of the fabulous new Art Impressions Mini TryFolds (yes, there will be more later! yay!) These new sets are amazing! Love them.

Here I used the Sweet Wishes MTF- 4848 to make my valentine trifold card.  This time I gave it a curved top edge by die cutting while the card was closed.  Then I made sure my die was lined up correctly to cut my patterned paper layers to match.

sweet wishes MTF 1a diane zechman

When I make my Mini TryFold cards, I usually start with 4 1/4 x 11 cardstock and score 3 5/8″ in from each end.  The TryFold sets come with 3 images and matching sentiments, plus 2 dies to coordinate so you can peek through the layers to the last image on the inside. So cool!  The largest image (floral wreath here) goes on the card front and I die cut the inside of the wreath.  Instead of stamping the wreath on a panel, I decided to fussy cut the outer edges as well.

sweet wishes MTF 1b diane zechman

When you open the first fold, there’s a mailbox on the second panel.  The inside of this was also die cut.  The door to the mailbox does not completely cut with the die, though…the bottom edge has perforations in the die so it stays attached and opens!  CUTE!  Can you see the bird peeking through?

When completely open, the smallest image is on the inside.  This set has a tiny bird with some love letters!

panda slider

Hello friends!

The current Ai Challenge is “Slide on By” …and we are featuring three new super cute Slider Sets (to use with the Slider Die) plus two new Stackers Sets (which also coordinate with the Slider Die)!

Here I used the Panda Slider Set (4801) to create a cloud shaped card.

panda slider 1 diane zechman

I love making shaped cards and thought he’d be cute on a big cloud so I kept my card base and slider pieces all white.  I did add a smaller patterned paper cloud, though, for a whimsical accent.  Part of the plane was paper pieced with some matching paper.  The little “hi” is a cute die included in this set (there’s also a balloon)!

When the slider piece is pulled, the plane slides across the card and reveals the sentiment.

I just quickly sketched my cloud card and cut it by hand.  Here’s the pattern if you would like to make one too.  Click on the photo and then right click to save.
