not a recipe card

create-a-recipe-hello-diane-zechman.jpgHappy Monday!

Tonight’s the night that All That Scraps will release the new sets for August!  Once again there will be a chat starting at 8 pm in the message board, followed by the release at 10 pm.  I hope you can join us!

Today I wanted to share a card that I made with my Create A Recipe set.  But this one is not a recipe card.  I wanted to show the versatility of the images and how they can be used for lots of other occasions.  For example…the cake could be used for a birthday, the chicken soup image can be used for a get well card, the snowman would make cute Christmas tags, etc.  You could even use the house image to announce your new address.

Here I decided to choose a few country images to make a general “hello” card.  I wanted to include a few non-food related images in this set because sometimes I like to have recipes with just a country image.

Have a great day….I’m off to do more laundry.

create a recipe!

create-a-recipe-file-diane-zechman.jpgHappy Saturday!  Are you ready for another sneak peek?

Today at ATS we are previewing my new set…Create A Recipe!

This set is being released at a perfect time for me.  I was invited to a bridal shower that I was unable to attend but I sent a gift which also included this set of recipe cards and mini magazine holder.

I was searching for a template for a 3×5 recipe card holder when I found this post by my dear friend, Tracy.  I had completely forgotten about her project and that I wanted to try one of these so this was perfect!  It was an easy project to make…I hope you give it a try!

We were supposed to include a favorite recipe in our shower gift, so one stamped card was used for the recipe and the rest were left blank.

Below is a picture of the cards I included and I didn’t even use all of the images included in the set!  There are 16 different items to stamp inside the recipe card image which is sized to fit a 3×5 piece of cardstock or blank index card.

create-a-recipe-cards-diane-zechman.jpgIf you look close, you might notice some familiar images….the snowman and cookie mouse have made a reappearance in a miniature size!  (Bumble B. Bear makes another appearance too!)  These small versions will also coordinate with their original sets to stamp on the backs of cards or on the envelopes!

I hope this project will be useful to the recipient.  She is a stamper too so I’m sure she’ll know the love that goes into a project….no matter how small.  :0)   I also included a 6×6 fabric album with 2 of my recipe pages.  I thought she might like to start a recipe album as well and add some of her own personal favorites.

Rhonda, I’m sorry I missed your party and I hope you had a fun day!

Be sure to check out the ATS blog and gallery for more samples using the Create A Recipe set.  And don’t forget to leave a comment on the ATS blog post for a chance to win it!

Are you ready for some fun challenges?

They begin today over at the Splitcoaststampers site!  It’s time for another Dare To Get Dirty celebration where you can join in the fun and participate in the challenges set forth by the past & present Dirty Dozen gals.  You can check out the challenges here.  I think you need to be a fan club member, though…so if you haven’t joined yet, now’s a great time to do so!

My friend Tracy is one of the hostesses this year and she asked me to make a sample for her.  To find out what her challenge is, you can check out the SCS site.  Here is the project I came up with…a paper bag card!  I have made paper bag books before, but I never thought of making it into a card.  I saw this idea on Mariska’s blog.

I used my Get Well Critters set and a white lunch bag.  I folded the bag in half and stitched the folded edge on my sewing machine.  Then I added some jumbo eyelets and ribbon.

And here’s the inside.  I inserted a packet of chicken soup mix in the pocket to go with the theme.  ;0)

ATS sketch, a blue bear, and blog candy winner

Today’s Wednesday challenge at All That Scraps is a sketch challenge.  The sketch was created by Janneke and it is a fun one.  Here it is:

And here is the card I came up with:

blue-bear-diane-zechman.jpg

Sorry for the poor photo!  And I am not sure why I colored him blue…I guess I just wanted him to be different.  LOL.

I had fun with my new Spellbinders that just came…the eyelet border and the pinking circles.  And I used up some scraps of dp I had left from my watering can project.

You can check out the other DT cards with this sketch on the ATS blog and you can play along too.  Don’t forget that the guest DT are quite often chosen from the entries!  :0)

stamps- Bumble B. Bear by Cookie Crumbs; paper- White, Buckaroo, Saffron, Olive, brown, K & Company Que Sera Sera; ink- Memento Black; accessories- Spellbinders Eyelets Borderabilities and Pinking Circles Nestabilities, Copic markers, gel pen.

AND….today is the day I pick a winner for my blog candy!

The winner is…. Norine!

Please send me your address so I can get the box out to you.

A good friend sticks by you…

bumble-b-bear-diane-zechman.jpg…like a bear with honey.  That is my favorite sentiment in my new Bumble B. Bear set!

This set is now available here at ATS!

I mentioned in another post that I would explain why this sentiment is my favorite.  Well, I was getting the sentiments ready several months ago…before my friend Linda passed away.  I had them all written down except this particular one.  I just couldn’t get it worded so that it sounded right in my head.  So what do you do when you need help?  You call a friend, of course!  Linda was the one I called when I needed someone to talk to…and I miss that.  Anyway…Linda was my sounding board that day.  She didn’t necessarily help with the verse but she helped by being my listening ear so I could talk it out and get it just right.  And how appropriate is this verse for someone who has cancer?  I wish that I could have made this card for her a few months ago.

If you haven’t checked out all the new sets yet, you’ll need to do so…they are so cute!

Have a bee-utiful day!

bee joyful

Hi everyone!  Today is the last day of our sneak peeks of the new sets at ATS for July.  And tomorrow is the first Monday of the month, so that means that they will be available tomorrow night at 10 pm!

Today we are previewing my new set called Bumble B. Bear!  :0)

bee-joyful-diane-zechman.jpg

This set includes the bear dressed like a bee, a beehive, bee, honeypot, 2 flowers, a cloud, and several sentiments.  It also includes a smaller size of the bear which is perfect to use on the inside of the card, the back of the card or on the envelope!

I wanted to use my favorite sentiment from the set on this card but I didn’t have enough space for it.  So I will use it next time….and explain why it means so much to me.

When I started this card, I first colored the bear with the browns, yellows and gray/black.  Then I remembered the unopened pack of Basic Grey paper I had that has some bees in it.  So I drew the rest of my colors from the paper.  I Still had my Creative Memories decorative trimmer out from this project, so I used it to cut a wave along the bottom edge of one panel.  2 of the clouds and the honeypot are popped up on dimensionals.

Go check out more samples of Bumble B. Bear on the ATS blog and enter for a chance to win this set!  We also hope you can join us tomorrow night at 8 pm on the message board for a chat before the release!

Today All That Scraps is Review Previewing my set for June…Get Well Critters

get-well-bug-diane-zechman.jpg

I have really enjoyed using this set and I hope you like it too!  You can see my pig card here and my puppy card here

I also made a chicken card for a friend who had surgery.  In fact, she is receiving several chicken cards.  LOL.  When she retired, her friends cut up a piece of retirement paper and all made cards with the same dp.  So we thought it would be fun for everyone to make her a get well card with my chicken….since she has the same bandaged “wing”.  ;0)  You can see a few of those cards here.  I also made another chicken card of sorts but I cannot share that one yet….next month sometime!

And there are great samples by the dt on the ATS site too- check out the blog and gallery.  And here’s a great card by our guest dt member, Mariska van der Veer.  Her work is awesome!

This time I wanted to use one of the bugs and put it in the jar image.  I couldn’t decide what color to make him, can you tell?  LOL.  Then when I was searching for some paper to match, I found this piece in the DCWV Sweet stack.  I’m sure it is supposed to be colorful candies, but since I was making a get well card, I thought they looked like pills.  Or maybe the colorful children’s vitamins I bought years ago!

The card base was cut down to a 3 3/4″ width so that the sentiment flag would hang over the edge when attached.  This will still fit in a regular A2 size envelope.  The jar was popped up on dimensionals.

The sun is shining again today…yay!  But I have baking to do and I hate to heat the oven on a hot day.  ugh.  Have a great one!

Edit to add: to answer a question…  I didn’t write the Copic numbers down, but I’m pretty sure it was these:

B00, B02, G05, YG06, Y00, Y02, YR16, Y38, R17, R46, C-1.

This card was made for a friend who hurt her left arm and needs surgery.  The images are from my new set, Get Well Critters, available at All That Scraps.  I thought the chicken with the bandaged wing would be perfect to send to her.  I hope it brings a smile.

Below is the inside of the card.  It’s pretty simple but I was able to use up some scraps.  All of the papers used here were shared by a friend and I think they are from PaperTrey Ink.

I’ve been busy the past week with traveling to a graduation party and cleaning.  But hopefully I’ll have some time to stamp again soon.  I still need to get my Father’s Day cards done!

puppy preview and a Nesties tutorial

get-well-dog-diane-zechman.jpgGood morning!

I have lots to share today… in this post I have a puppy card preview and a tutorial for cutting “out of the box” with the Nesties.  Then don’t forget to scroll down to my other post today for the next Stampavie challenge!

This puppy is another image in my Get Well Critters set that will be available *tonight* at 10 pm on the All That Scraps site!

He is the image that started the whole set since I was asked (a very long time ago) to make a card for someone who had an accident.  I never did get around to making that card…oops!  Well, now I’ll be ready the next time I need one!  LOL.

I couldn’t quite bring myself to color the puppy’s “puddle” yellow, so I left it white. ha ha.  I hope this image and sentiment doesn’t offend anyone….it is meant to be humorous.  If you don’t like the puddle by him, just cut it off…no worries!  Did you see the super cute card that Dawn made?  She omitted the puddle and gave him a bandaid from the set- so cute!  (And be sure to check out the other samples in the ATS gallery…Jay Jay even stuck the Chicken in bed instead of the pig!)

I hope to see you tonight on the ATS board…there will be a chat at 8 pm before the release.

“Out Of The Box” with Nestabilities

bugg-a-boos-tut-4-diane-zechman.jpg Next…here’s a card I made with Christine’s cute Bugg-a-boos set.  (And the words are from AmyR’s Beach Sentiments set.)

I used paper piecing on her tummy and paper piercing on the corners, around the sentiment, and also to make a butterfly trail.

And I don’t have the Copic airbrush, so this time I tried adding some yellow highlights around her with a stipple brush.  I’m still experimenting with this.  I’m not sure if I like the stipple brush more or the air art tool.  I do like the control I had, though, with a stipple brush.

The main image was cut out using an “out of the box” technique.  I’ve had a few friends ask how to do this, so I thought I’d do a quick tutorial.

Now, there are several ways to do “out of the box” techniques.  You can take an image and use it in a different way…such as turning a flowerpot upside down for a hat…or stamping a heart several times in a circle to make a flower, etc.  Or you can think outside of the box and make a green heart or a brown flower, etc.

But this time I used a different type of “out of the box” where you leave part of your image hanging out from the panel that it is cut out of.  Did I make sense?  In other words, here I cut out my butterfly girl but I cut around part of her wing so it sticks out beyond the shape I cut her in.  This technique is quite easy but it is just a bit tricky to visualize when you are using the Nestabilities.  So I took a few quick photos when I made this card and I hope they help to make this technique easier to understand.  It really isn’t difficult and I encourage you to try it!

First, lay your Nestability shape on top of your image where you want it to cut.  Then, using a pencil, mark a small line on the inside of the die… above and below the section you want to leave hanging out.

bugg-a-boos-tut-1-diane-zechman.jpg

Then remove the die and with a pair of sharp pointy scissors, cut from the edge of your paper up to the line you drew.  Then cut around the section you are letting hang out.  Here I cut up to the lines and then cut around the tip of the wing.

bugg-a-boos-tut-2-diane-zechman.jpg

Next, place the die back into position, with the cutting edge down.  When you slide the die into place, lift the section you are letting hang out so that it lays above the die.  This will keep it from being cut off when it is put through the die cut machine.

bugg-a-boos-tut-3-diane-zechman.jpg

Now you just sandwich your image and die with your cutting plates and run it through your machine.  When your image is cut out, remove the die and erase the pencil marks you drew.

Here’s the finished card again:

bugg-a-boos-tut-4-diane-zechman.jpg

I hope this was easy to understand and I didn’t confuse you!  It is such a fun technique…I hope you try it if you haven’t already.
